Monte’s love of books began early. In the second grade, when he wrote an essay on Richard Bach’s “Jonathon Livingstone Seagull” he and his parents were immediately called to a meeting with a very strict teacher. Monte’s parents were informed that they could no longer do his homework and that second grade children do not write essays about the allegorical journey of a soul. Monte’s parents informed the irate teacher that they had never read the book and had never written an essay about it. This was when the incredulous teacher became angry. Monte knew he had found his true calling. Writing was fun. It was also a handy tool for stirring up some trouble!
